It is a database of upcoming transformer station and substation projects, built by Blackridge Research & Consulting. It currently tracks 1,858 upcoming projects, each with its stage, location, voltage or MW rating where reported, disclosed capex and the companies involved.
304 of the 1,858 tracked projects are under construction and another 218 have reached contract award. Planning is the largest stage, with 1,112 projects (60% of the pipeline).
Projects that disclose a budget add up to $50.0B in capex. Many substation projects do not publish a cost, so this is disclosed capex only, not the full value of the pipeline.
Europe leads, with 1,525 projects in or touching the region, followed by the Middle East (217) and North America (95). A project can belong to more than one region, so regional counts overlap.
AM - BalWin1 HVDC Substation 2000 MW in Germany, rated 2,000 MW, with $3.0B in disclosed capex. It is at the Contract Award stage.
No. Projects are rated in kV (voltage) or MW (power), which cannot be added together, so the tracker shows each project's own rating with its unit instead of a total.
